Track Name: Cruel
First foolish fauns on virgin snow
Exploring contours of your withered lungs
Then ghoulish kin, naked and bold
Your violent tongue exposing faultlines on my soul

You were so cruel
God knows I tried to be good
I only want to do right
By you my love

Then crippled crows among the thorns
Your copper crown is turned a spiteful green
Forever England hold my bones
There we'll sleep beneath the earth and never touch

You were so cruel
God knows I tried to be good
I only want to do right
By you my love
Track Name: The Thorn
Suzanne is twenty-one and already it's winter
Her flesh is cold and the days they grow shorter
She stays up late when the moon is in Capricorn
And longs for the spring

She travelled west from New York to Idaho
In hope the mountains might offer something spiritual
She prayed to gods, both plural and biblical
She was woman no more

Her mother was a killer
Her love it was green
Her daddy was a rambling man
Suzanne was my brown-eyed gyspy queen

Suzanne now in equal parts feral and mystical
Offered her womb from the great Borah's pinnacle
Was granted a babe delivered in lilies
They bathed in the blood of the moon

Now she lay in the wake of a cool saltless ocean
Made love to the wolves who granted devotion
She took her athame and carved a map of Gethsemane
Deep in the palm of her hand

Her mother was a killer
Her love it was green
Her daddy was a rambling man
Suzanne was my brown-eyed gyspy queen

Suzanne died on the third of December
Face down she lay in a body of water
Her child, no longer her daughter
Picked the flesh from her bones

Now with each passing day I pray for a blackness
That I may join my love at the foot of Olympus
For now I'll lay flowers at St. Michael's cathedral
Forever long for the spring

Her mother was a killer
Her love it was green
Her daddy was a rambling man
Suzanne was my brown-eyed gyspy queen
Track Name: King of the River
On gilded ships we met the shore
Some filthy spectre of the sun
And carved the words there on the stone
All of the things we'd left undone

And the heavens hung above us
While we stood on feet of clay

And of this earth we both were made
And Avalon was yours and mine

I used to think that I was King of the River
But now I know
I'm just the ebb and flow
Going nowhere
I am nothing at all

With cruellest winter came decay
My crooked heart now caving in
You were my queen and I your slave
To Aphrodite we gave sin

And the oceans parted for us
While we took an easier way

And of your blood were born the wolves
And of your bones the borderlines

I used to think that I was King of the River
But now I know
I'm just the ebb and flow
Going nowhere
I am nothing at all

And Olympus rose above us
While our bodies turned to clay

Now in Elysian Fields you dwell
I build my home in Asphodel

I used to think that I was King of the River
But now I know
I'm just the ebb and flow
Going nowhere
I am nothing at all

I used to think that I was King of the River
But now I know
I'm just the ebb and flow
Going nowhere
I am nothing at all
